He waits on Mt. Erebus

in the depth of the Antarctic night,
plunging the surrounding air
down to absolute zero,
scourging the landscape
as he roars out his final rage
in a voice that freezes sound
itself.
His gaze stops the motion
of the starlight in its tracks
and the earth becomes as desolate
as the far side of Neptune.
He is one with the dark matter,
and no living thing
will survive being within
a trillion miles of him.
There he will wait in the
motionless deadness
forever,
annihilating all that is
foolish enough
to challenge his
infinite
self-exile, aware
of everything
and nothing
at the same time,
and indifferent to all
of it.
